The paper
focuses on the semantic and syntactic structure of sentences and supra-phrasal
unities which reflect one of the most significant intellectual actions –
evaluation, with the specific character and regularities of the means of
conceptualization of the evaluative process in modern English being defined. The
interaction of lexical and syntactic semantics is being considered not only on
the sentence level but also on the level of a supra-phrasal unity with verbs of
evaluation, which testifies that the denotational field of evaluation belongs to
the level of text.

In the
article the identity of diachronic approach in researching of language phenomena
is revealed. Diachronic linguistics determinates the causes of language
variations, the time of their beginning and finishing, the development paths of
these processes. S. Sonderegger offers the new analyses method of German
language history in systematized prospect. The study of language history as a
constant dialectical unity of «the old» and «the new» language facts sneaks up
on a question of the diachronic constants in the language evolution and of the
inconstant features in the history of German language system.

THE STOCKING OF SLANG WITH NEW VOCABULARY UNITS

In the article the author gives special attention to such a linguistic
phenomenon as slang and to such particular questions as the ways of stocking the
vocabulary of this substandard layer with new words. The author analyses the
reasons of including new words in slang, and also focuses on the classifications
of ways of formation the new slang units in the language. The author comes to
the conclusion that it is in the sphere of slang where all social changes of
today are reflected, and that is the reason of such a great number of new
slangisms in the language.
