THE PROBLEM OF PARTS OF SPEECH IN DARGIN

The paper concentrates on the problem of word classes in Dargwa (Nakh-Daghestanian), the language with rich agglutinative morphology and a number of productive derivation rules. The author analyses three different approaches to word classes – based on morphology of word forms, their distribution and, finally, their ability to dominate different phrases. The result is a procedure of ascribing a syntactic class to words of different types including the forms that appeared as the result of a derivation.
