  The article analyzes the process of communicative creation of post-truth (fake) content of political discourse-interview. A set of eristic arguments and rhetorical techniques of "verbal coercion" have been identified for the realization of the speaker's "strategic intent," which is aimed at creating a negative image of his or her interlocutor and his/her country with the aim of deliberate discreditation in the struggle for geopolitical dominance and influence in the world.

STORYTELLING IN ENGLISH-LANGUAGE LECTURE DISCOURSE: FUNCTIONS AND MEANS OF CONSTRUCTION

  The article examines the role and functions of a communication strategy of storytelling in English-language lecture discourse. The research corpus comprises three lectures delivered in English by linguists L. Boroditsky, C. Kramsch, and D. Tannen. The transcripts of these lectures were scrutinized by means of discourse analysis, content analysis, qualitative, structural, and statistical methods. As a result, the author concludes that storytelling in lecture discourse has a clear structure, describes past events with the help of factual information, emotional lexis and means of dialogicity. Storytelling demonstrates explanatory and contact establishing functions, and often produces a humorous effect on the audiences.

  The article analyzes the media text of the Central Television of China CGTN-Russian, the main task of which is to strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation between China, Russia and the Russian-speaking regions of other countries. Based on the study of the semantics of the most frequently used concepts in the programs, a conclusion is made on the thematic range of the media text of the CGTN-Russian channel, on linguistic factors actively influencing the recipients' perception of the text material and shaping their picture of the world, as well as on the political, ideological and social direction of this program television broadcast.

COMONYMS AND ASTIONYMS FUNCTIONING IN POLISH PHRASEOLOGY

  The article discusses the functioning of astionyms – the names of cities – and comonyms – the names of villages – as part of Polish phraseological units. The relevance of the study is due to the great attention in linguistics to phraseology, closely related to the background knowledge of native speakers, their history and customs. The scientific novelty of the study is to provide a multidimensional analysis of astionyms and comonyms functioning in Polish phraseology. In the course of the study, location of referents and the most frequent astionyms in Polish phraseological units were defined. Particular attention was paid to the astionyms and comonyms influence on the formation of the figurative meaning of phraseology. We consider the ability of onyms as part of phraseological units to maintain the properties that are not characteristic of proper names as they can entry into a relationship of synonymy and antonymy. In the course of the study, methods of semantic as well as statistical and etymological analysis were used.

The article presents the results of the analysis of 3 Islamic State recruitment videos, obtained to identify the employed manipulative strategies and tactics. It is noted that strategies of abasement, aggrandizement and theatricality, essential for political communication, are prominent in the examined terrorist discourse and a vast range of manipulative tactics is implemented in the Islamic State speakers’ messages.

HISPANIC TOPONYMY OF BELIZE: LINGUOPRAGMATIC ANALYSIS

The article provides a linguopragmatic analysis of Belize’s Hispanic toponymy. The author comes to the conclusion that the colonial past of the region is reflected in its toponymic corpus. Hispanic toponymic nominations, despite the independence, state sovereignty of Belize and the official English language of the country, are a bright and integral part of the total number of geographical names in this territory. Numerous examples illustrate the heterogeneity of the hispanic geographical names of the region and features of their modern functioning.
