COMONYMS AND ASTIONYMS FUNCTIONING IN POLISH PHRASEOLOGY
ID: 0421200038\XXXX
Key words: phraseology, onomasiology, onym,
toponyms, astionyms, comonyms
The article discusses the functioning of astionyms – the names of cities – and
comonyms – the names of villages – as part of Polish phraseological units. The
relevance of the study is due to the great attention in linguistics to
phraseology, closely related to the background knowledge of native speakers,
their history and customs. The scientific novelty of the study is to provide a
multidimensional analysis of astionyms and comonyms functioning in Polish
phraseology. In the course of the study, location of referents and the most
frequent astionyms in Polish phraseological units were defined. Particular
attention was paid to the astionyms and comonyms influence on the formation of
the figurative meaning of phraseology. We consider the ability of onyms as part
of phraseological units to maintain the properties that are not characteristic
of proper names as they can entry into a relationship of synonymy and antonymy.
In the course of the study, methods of semantic as well as statistical and
etymological analysis were used.

The article provides a linguopragmatic analysis of Belize’s Hispanic toponymy.
The author comes to the conclusion that the colonial past of the region is
reflected in its toponymic corpus. Hispanic toponymic nominations, despite the
independence, state sovereignty of Belize and the official English language of
the country, are a bright and integral part of the total number of geographical
names in this territory. Numerous examples illustrate the heterogeneity of the
hispanic geographical names of the region and features of their modern
functioning.
