ID number 0421200038\XXX
Keywords: cognitive linguistics,
word-building system, parts of speech, categorization, subcategorization,
prototype, attribute cluster
The article deals with subcategorization of the world as the basic
cognitive function of any natural word-building system. Its precision and
detailed character lay a reliable basis for the categorization of the world,
while its flexibility makes possible further subcategorization into categories
of a desired degree of detail, which concurs with the cognitive approach to the
sign as a natural prototypic system lacking sharp boundaries. Subcategorization
of the world forms a separate niche of word-building, a function to which the
latter is perfectly attuned.
